Black History Month: Celebrating The Work From People Of Color

In February, our Top Influencers list is completely dedicated to Black History Month. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate and recognize even more the outstanding work and contributions from people of color to our culture and society.

Amanda Gorman (USA)

Amanda Gorman makes history as the youngest poet in recent history and became the breakout star of the United States presidential inauguration with her poem "The Hill We Climb”. 

With wisdom that far exceeds her age, Amanda held a mirror before Americans watching and spoke to our world collectively in an honest, painful and beautiful way. She showed the diverse woman of the next generation and why they have reasons to hope.

Tomi Adeyemi (USA)

At 27 years old, Tomi is breaking barriers as a best-selling novelist and creative writing coach. Her debut novel, "Children of Blood and Bone," spent over two years on the New York Times Best Sellers List and is currently being adapted into a film.

Mandy Woelekens is an unstoppable advocate for the Black and LGBTQ+ community. She is a member and public figure of ‘Omroep Zwart’, a Dutch initiative that fights for more diverse and black people on the Dutch television.

As she states herself: ‘Because representation and representatives are needed. Wherever you come from, whoever you fall on, what you believe in or not, however you identify yourself, Black is all colors together’.  Beautiful, isn’t it?

She keeps it real on the 'gram, being very open about traumatic experiences and difficulties she has faced due to racism. She uses her online platforms to challenge stereotypical beauty standards and uplift black Arab women, inspiring them to love themselves in their beautiful skin.

Naomi Osaka is a tennis prodigy and one of the greatest players of her generation. Besides being an athlete, Naomi is super active on her social media and is also an activist. She has recently stood out for her performance in and outside courts, addressing racial injustice and police brutality.

She is of Japanese and Haitian descendant, and while some people want her to embrace a single identity, she's only concerned with being herself, encouraging all her fans to do the same, and we couldn’t love it more.

Char is unapologetically herself - she is a queer Black woman who lives life to the fullest, and encourages others along the way. 

She is the founder of girlswillbeboys, a short film series that normalizes conversation about modern-day gender-assigned roles. Char is a firm believer in equality and is doing everything in her power to help.

She also loves to express herself through interior design, constantly posting inspirational pictures of her apartment.

Asiyami’s Instagram is a place that emphasizes her multi-faceted personality and gives life to her strong storytelling and visual capabilities. She is the founder and creative director of the agency AGoldStudio and of the store A.Au shop that sells handmade pieces. 

In 2020, Asiyami made a documentary film about Abua Odual, sharing the wisdom passed on from stories told. Asiyami honors her ancestors and wants to share her heritage with people.
